15 Events to have Fresh Flowers At

I may be a little biased but I think having fresh blooms at any event or special occasion is a good idea. They add a little something extra that shows you thought about every aspect of the planning process, they soften the venue making the space a little more comfortable and they are just really pretty to look at! Am I wrong on that one? I have put together a list of events that you may want to think about adding fresh flowers on that to-do list of yours.

Weddings
Obviously.

Bridal Shower
Whats better than showering the bride to be with fresh blooms?

Rehearsal Dinner
Start the wedding festivities a day early and give everyone just a little taste of the gorgeousness they will see on your wedding day.

Sunday Brunch
Brunch is great. So when you plan one with all your best friends treat them to some fresh blooms as well. It will brighten everyones morning and wake them up a little bit more.

Anniversary Parties
Throwing a big anniversary party? How about incorporating the flowers used on their wedding day into the party. That would definitely take them back to their special day.

Company Events
Not all companies throw great parties like Ruche does. So step it up just a little bit and make everyone feel a little more comfortable with gorgeous arrangements on all of the tables.

Summer Solstice Party
When I was in Sweden, I found out that Summer Solstice or Midsummer is a day that everyone comes together and celebrates. It is tradition that the girls wear wildflower crowns. I LOVED this and eventually want to have a celebration like this. If you are throwing one, think about getting floral crowns for all of the girls. They would love it.

Birthday Parties
Birthday parties aren't just for the streamers and balloons anymore. How about adding vines of flowers to the balloon strings instead. Unexpected dreaminess.

Decor for Classes
Little arrangements add some texture and color to your tables, whatever you may be teaching.

Photo Shoots
Think about wearing a floral crown or hold a fresh bouquet in your next portrait session.

Product Launches
If you are launching products online, add some fresh blooms to the product photos. It would add dimension and some extra color.

Host a Floral Arranging Class
Contact your local florist and see if they would be willing to host a little workshop for you and your friends! Whether it be making a floral crown or a hand tied bouquet.

Decor for Home Tours
When doing a home tour on your blog, always add fresh blooms to the rooms. It makes it look like someone actually lives there and really brightens up the room.

Styled Shoots
Styled photo shoots and stock images are huge for bloggers right now. Gathering office supplies and props that match your brand are fun, but don't forget to add the blooms in there too. They really add a fresh touch to the photos.

Garden Party
A garden party is another party on my must host list. So obviously fresh blooms would need to be anywhere and everywhere.

Are you throwing any fun parties or events in the near future that you are adding fresh blooms at? What is your dream party to host?

Searching for that Yellow

This last weekend, Brent and I took a drive up north to check out all of the daffodil fields that are blooming right now. It is so neat, driving around, not knowing where exactly the fields are but just looking for fields of pure yellow. That is exactly how we found them. I think it would be so amazing to live in a farmhouse around here and drive by these flowers every day or even have them in your backyard! Driving by these fields just makes me want to have a cutting garden of my own even more. Hopefully soon!

Adding Flowers in Unexpected Places - (Hang Them!)

Hello there! So we all know to put flowers in vases and place them on tables, mantles, shelves, any flat surface, right? Well lets switch that up a bit. Lets hang those vases and get some color and life in a dark corner. But you're thinking, "Jordyn, we can hang plants in those corners. There are tons of tutorials for hanging plants around." True. Some corners may not have enough light and could actually be harmful to those indoor plants we love so much, however. That's where cut flowers come in! Sunlight is actually reduces the life of them, so dark corners are perfect!

Supplies
  • Bud Vases - Pick some that have some sort of lip in the opening.
  • Twine - Or any ribbon/rope. I liked the rustic look of the twine.
  • Hooks
  • Scissors
  • Fresh Blooms

1. Measure how low you would like the hang your vases, double it and cut this much twine. Tie the two ends together so that you have one big circle.
2. Attach the twine to the lip of the vase. Tie it, loop it, whatever works best for the vases that you have, just make sure that it is attached tight so they don't slip off.
3. Fill the vases with water and place a bloom in each vase.
4. Screw a hook into the ceiling where you would like to hang the flowers. Make sure it is secure!
5. Hang your vases!
You can hang as many vases as you want to make a bigger impact. You might want to use more than one hook for that though! I think this would be amazing above a dining room table as sort of a living chandelier. Let me know what you would do with this! The possibilities are endless!
Have a great weekend!

Snow!?

So, true story. A couple mornings ago, I woke up and looked out the window and thought, "Oh! It snowed!" I quickly realized that the tree outside my window did not have any snow on it, but it was covered in flowers! I wrote a little post about this flowering tree at the end of March last year. This tree is blooming a full month ahead of schedule. And not long after that post I was in a field of daffodils which are already blooming too.

This little house in the background is also the one that we are planning to redo and make into a more suitable working space. Imagine a big deck on the front and sliding barn like doors on the front to completely open up the studio. I will definitely keep you updated on everything that is happening with it. Hopefully it won't be too long before things get started.

Studio Space Inspiration

Last summer, I cleaned out the greenhouse behind our house and one of the goals for the coming months is to make into a studio space to arrange flowers in. Right now that happens on the front porch and I just hate leaving the flowers out there overnight. So, I would love to have a space out back where I can keep them and all of my supplies.
Ive gathered some photos for inspiration on how I would like the space to look and feel. Im thinking lots of white with some dark barn wood to rough it up a bit. I would love a sink in there, but there is unfortunately no way that is going to happen. Maybe in my next studio :) A wall of shelves filled with vessels is on the must list and I LOVE botanical prints, so to have those covering one wall would be pretty neat. And of course a long, tall table to work on and fill with lots of flowers.

Spring is Here!

I really feel kind of bad for writing this post, knowing that most of you are buried in snow. Here in Washington, we are having very spring like weather. Daffodils are blooming, tulips won't be too far behind them and the trees are already flowering! I am really not ready for this yet. But I really couldn't be happier. January and February have got be the most uninspiring months for me. They are in between the holidays and the beginning of spring. That has got to be tough for them. So here I am in a bright butterfly dress and shopping for flowers! I hope the rest of you get weather like this very, very soon.

Where to Put Flowers Around Your House

Valentines Day is right around the corner, so you might find yourself with a bouquet of fresh flowers. If you don't get them from someone, buy yourself some! I LOVE buying myself flowers for no reason at all :) Once you get the flowers, where are you going to put them? You want to put them somewhere where you can enjoy them and they will look their best.

Single Flower Arrangement
A bouquet of the same flower and color can make quite a statement. You might be getting a dozen red roses in a couple of days, so what are you going to do with them? What I did with my anemones, is I cut the stems short and put them in a short vase. This would look good anywhere that you just want a pop of color.
Bedside Table
Bar Cart
Bathroom
Coffee table with lots of knick-knacks

Low Formal Arrangement
If you want to get creative, go out and cut some foliage and berries from your backyard and make a little formal arrangement with your flowers. These arrangements that are more busy and have more than one type of flower would look good in places where it can be the only thing there or in well styled, uncluttered areas.
A table in the entryway or hallway
Dining room or kitchen table
Uncluttered coffee table

Tall Arrangement
So you don't want to cut the stems and just keep them in a tall vase? Put these in an area where it can be a focal point. Avoid tables where you sit on all sides. You want to be able to see the person across from you!
Mantle
Entryway
Hallway

Don't be afraid to stretch the uses of your flowers. If you get one bouquet, make 2 arrangements from it! I took a bouquet of roses one year, put them in multiple little bud vases and bottles and stuck them all on my mantle for one long statement piece. I LOVED how it looked. Don't be afraid to play with them a little. Flowers are strong and can take a good playing with :)
Have fun with it!
